It is five years since a global vote elected an AI leader, Solomon, to give humanity one last chance of survival in the face of crippling climate change. The world might be in recovery, but humankind is suffering — and rebelling — under Solomon's governance.

As acts of sabotage and civil disobedience increase, a disgusted Solomon offers the people of the world a final choice: Upgrade or Unplug. Upgrade means irrevocably merging with artificial intelligence as a way of deleting the destructive nature of the species. Unplug will brick every chip, including Solomon himself, and humanity will begin again in a pre-digital age.

What makes this a one-off limited edition?

One run of 1,500 numbered copies, one jacket design, one bookshop. There is no second version and no other retailer. The novel inside is the same novel as the standard hardback and shares its ISBN; what is exclusive is the jacket, the signature, the number and the bonus story.

Do I choose between Upgrade and Unplug?

No. Gold Upgrade is the front of the jacket and green Unplug is the back, so every copy carries both.

Where can I buy it?

Only from The Mysterious Bookcase, an independent bookshop in Westbourne, Bournemouth. It sells and dispatches every copy.

What makes the early phase different?

You pick an exact copy number before checkout and that copy is the one you get, at £22, signed and personally dedicated. In the standard phase that follows, copies are still numbered but the number is allocated at random.

Can I cancel or return an Early Bird copy?

Early Bird copies are individually numbered and made to your specification using the dedication supplied at checkout, so they cannot be cancelled or returned because you change your mind. This does not affect your statutory rights if the book is faulty, damaged, misdescribed or not delivered.
